We recently had the privilege of shooting professional headshots for the premier lodge on the Texas Coast located in Seadrift, Texas. They offer premier bay fishing, coastal duck hunting, world-class fly fishing, legendary lodging, and table dining. We wanted to provide them with a professional outdoor headshot that high lighted natural light, with a touch of off-camera flash, creating a beautiful headshot.
Patty and I drove down to the lodge a couple of weeks before the photoshoot. When possible, we try to meet with our clients to understand better their needs building that relationship. We also scouted out the area, picking some possible locations for their outdoor headshots. Building relationships is the key to successful photography. Always show confidence while showing your clients; they made the right choice.
The day of the shoot. We arrived around 2:30 PM. We had a lot of overhead sunlight to contend with, so we chose our location based on lighting and symmetry. We had 33 people we needed to capture in a short time. It was hot and humid, but we managed to capture these shots in about an hour and a half. We wanted uniformity and consistency based on our client's use of these headshots.
Camera equipment we used:
- Canon R
- Canon 85 mm
- Westcott Rapid Box
- Savage Stand
- Profoto B10
Remember to always engage with your subject. My goal for every shoot is to show confidence and clear directions. You only have minutes to show them you are a professional. And your goal is to make them look the best possible. Last thing, smile, and have fun!
